Course Objectives

Health Disparities Project

1. Develop an understanding of inequality as it relates to health outcomes and identify key areas of disparity in multiple disease categories.

2. Critically analyze the ways in which race, racial prejudice and gender, shape health experiences and treatment outcomes.

3. Recognize the multi-factorial impact that social determinants and the built environment have on health and wellness.

4.  Describe how the role of the health care professional, distribution of the healthcare workforce, and the knowledge, skills and attitudes professionals have toward changing demographics can influence patient care.

5. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in a culturally competent manner with key stakeholders. 6.  Analyze approaches to mitigate disparity and build upon the knowledge gained in the course to create an intervention for a specific public health concern and articulate recommendations via presentation.

The objective of this project was to discuss how pandemics are a public health challenge and the groups that are disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Additionally, we had to develop long-term preventative measures in order to help combat some issues of the pandemic.
